National Institute for Theoretical Physics
Bursaries 2010
Applications for 2010 is now closed. Applicants will be informed after 20 January 2010 on the outcome of their applications.
The National Institute for Theoretical Physics (NITheP) offers bursaries on the Honours, Masters and Doctoral levels for students studying in Theoretical Physics or a closely related discipline. These bursaries are available at ALL South African tertiary institutions. In cases where there is no formal program in Theoretical Physics, we will endeavour to support graduate projects which qualify as being of a theoretical physics nature by involving co-supervisors from those institutions which do host such programs.
The current values and duration of the bursaries are as follow:
Honours degree: R40 000 for one year full time study
Masters degree: R55 000 for two (three) years full (part) time study.
Doctoral degree: R75 000 for three (four) years full (part) time study.
Should the demand exceed the available funds, it may be necessary to award smaller NITheP bursaries to individuals who may supplement them from NRF grant holder bursaries.
To apply for a bursary complete the attached bursary form click here. A copy of the application form can also be obtained by sending an e-mail to moniquel@sun.ac.za. The completed application form and a complete study record should be faxed to 021-808-3862 or e-mailed to moniquel@sun.ac.za. The closure date is 4 January 2010. You will be notified of the outcome of your application as soon as possible. If your application is successful, payment of the bursary will only commence once proof of registration has been received. This should also be faxed or e-mailed to the above number or e-mail address.
If you are currently a NITheP bursary holder, and you qualify for an extension for your current degree, you only need to fax or e-mail your proof of registration for 2010 and a progress report signed by your supervisor to the above fax number or e-mail address. Note that even if you are a NITheP bursary holder, but you complete your current degree in 2009, and you wish to continue with a more advanced degree in 2010, you must submit a new application.
