Recent Trends in CFT & the Gauge/Gravity Correspondence

7th Joburg School on String Theory: Recent Trends in CFT & the Gauge/Gravity Correspondence

    From the organizers:

    Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the 7th Joburg School on String Theory, entitled "Recent Trends in CFT & the Gauge/Gravity Correspondence", to be held at Wits from August 29 - September 2, 2016. The school forms part of the 7th Joburg Workshop on String Theory, which will take place later in the year, and is jointly organised by the Mandelstam Institute for Theoretical Physics at Wits and the Theoretical Particle Physics group at the University of Pretoria, with support from NITheP.

The school is aimed at MSc and PhD students from South African universities, and will consist of lectures on several advanced topics such as supersymmetric gauge theories, the AdS/CFT correspondence, conformal field theory and integrable systems. A preliminary list of lecturers includes Robert de Mello Koch, Kevin Goldstein, Shinji Hirano, Vishnu Jejjala, and Joao Rodrigues (Wits) as well as Konstantinos Zoubos (University of Pretoria). Each lecture series will be accompanied by relevant tutorials, and will be recorded for the benefit of future students.

We would be grateful if you would forward this announcement to any students who might be interested in attending. Thanks in large part to funding from NITheP, we will be able to cover accommodation costs, as well as costs for breakfast and dinner, for students accepted to the school. We hope that students will be able to use local funds for their travel costs. In case that is not possible, we ask that the students indicate in their application that they will require travel funds.

To apply, students who wish to participate should email Konstantinos Zoubos at kzoubos@up.ac.za, indicating: (a) their home institution, (b) the name and contact details of their supervisor, (c) the degree they are currently enrolled in (MSc or PhD). The deadline to apply is Friday, July 29th.

We hope to see many students working in string theory and related fields at the school!

    For the organisers,
