    The National Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the Mandelstam Institute for Theoretical Physics, School of Physics, would like to invite to its coming talk in the theoretical physics seminar series, entitled:

    "Information geometry and AdS/CFT"

    to be presented by Dr. Jonathan Shock (University Cape Town)

    Abstract: Information Geometry allows for families of probability distributions to be imbued with a natural measure - the Fisher Metric. By studying the instanton moduli space of field theories, one can define, thanks to a prescription of Hitchin, a Fisher Metric on the moduli space which in many cases leads to hyperbolic geometries. It has been shown before that Euclidean AdS_5 emerges naturally as the metric of the SU(2) Yang Mills instanton moduli space. We propose some extensions to the prescription which allow for compact directions to emerge. These are tentative steps towards understanding the emergence of geometry from information but believe that there may be some very interesting findings to come.
