    WITS Node Seminar: Dr. Xifeng Ruan (University of the Witwatersrand)

    The National Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the Centre for Theoretical Physics, School of Physics, would like to invite to its coming talk in the theoretical physics seminar series, entitled:

    "The Higgs plus jets measurement in the ATLAS detector"

    to be presented by Dr. Xifeng Ruan (University of the Witwatersrand)

    Abstract: The Higgs-like boson has been discovered by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations with an accumulated integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb?1 in 2012. The properties of the new boson, especially the production modes associated with jets, strongly concerned by people, are possible to be measured using the current luminosity via diphoton decay mode. With the help of the unfolding techniques, we are able to measure the differential cross section of a selection of kinematic variables corrected for experimental acceptance and resolution to compare with theories. We also presented the extraction of the vector boson fusion Higgs production from the dominant gluon gluon fusion production and QCD backgrounds using the multivairate analysis techniques.
