    iThemba LABS public talk

    Good day

All are invited to attend an exciting FREE Public Lecture, ‘Cornerstones of physical reality,’ on 16 October (18h00 ? 19h00) at iThemba LABS in Faure, Somerset West. Dr Andrew Hamilton, UCT physics lecturer and researcher for CERN, will explain why the recent discovery of the Higgs boson, or ‘God particle’, is important to our understanding of the world around us. The Higgs boson, theorised in 1964 to explain why the most basic building blocks of the universe have mass, was finally discovered at CERN, Switzerland, in 2012. The physicists who proposed the theory, Francois Englert and Peter W Higgs, were awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics this week. RSVP: belinda@cadizstreet.co.za. We have also attached a poster with further info. We would also greatly appreciate if you could you print this and place it on your notice board. I hope you (and your friends and colleagues) will also consider attending!

    Kind regards
