    WITS Node Seminar: Prof CA Dominguez (University of Cape Town)

    The National Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the Centre for Theoretical Physics, School of Physics, would like to invite to its coming talk in the theoretical physics seminar series, entitled:

    "QCD and Hadrons at finite temperature: Probing Quark-Gluon deconfinement"

    to be presented by Prof. C. A. Dominguez (University of Cape Town)

    Abstract: Current experiments at Brookhaven and CERN, involving collisions of heavy nuclei at very high energies, are probing the deconfinement phase transition expected in QCD at temperatures close to Tc ? 200 MeV (? 1012 K). Theoretical approaches to this problem include lattice QCD simulations, perturbative QCD at high temperatures (T >> Tc), and QCD sum rules. The latter, to be reviewed in this talk, relates the QCD Operator Product Expansion of current correlators at short distances to hadronic observables in the range 0 ? T ? Tc. The talk, aimed at postgraduate students (and beyond), will be of a descriptive nature, thus avoiding technicalities.
