    WITS node seminar: Prof Andre Peshier

    The National Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the Centre for Theoretical Physics, School of Physics, would like to invite to its coming talk in the theory seminar series, entitled:

    "Tracing the QCD Equation of State"

    to be presented by Prof. Andre Peshier (University of Cape Town)

    Abstract: At large temperatures (and baryon densities), hadronic matter exists in a deconfined state, as a quark-gluon plasma. For relevant energy densities, this system is strongly coupled which makes perturbative approaches difficult, e.g. analytic calculations of its thermodynamic properties.

    I will review the status of our understanding of the Equation of State of the quark-gluon plasma, which can be explored non-perturbatively in lattice QCD calculations. Some focus will be on a quasiparticle model which, besides providing physical understanding, may also indicate the necessity to revise existing lattice QCD results.
