    Dear Colleagues, Dear Students,

We are pleased to announce that next Tuesday 27/03/2012, Univ.-Prof.
Dr. Gerhard Pfister (Department of Mathematics, University of Kaiserslautern, Germany) will give a talk in our Journal Club.

    Title: SINGULAR and Applications.

Abstract: SINGULAR is a computer algebra system developed in Kaiserslautern since 25 years.
It is designed to solve problems in commutative algebra, algebraic geometry and singularity theory. It has a lot of applications in other fields. The talk will report about some of the applications.
One example is a problem from group theory, solved by translating it to algebraic geometry and using computer algebra. We will also see how to solve a Sudoku using algebraic geometry and computer algebra.

    Time: 16:00
