THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE INVITES YOU TO A PUBLIC LECTURE WITH
    PROF HARTMUT WINKLER
    ON
    LOAD SHEDDING OR THE SUN
THE IMMINENT BOOM OF SOLAR ENERGY GENERATION
    IN SOUTH AFRICA

Rising electricity costs, depleting coal stocks and air pollution highlight the
growing energy crisis facing the country and the world at large. This talk describes
enticing possibilities to harvest a hitherto largely untapped ample source of
energy the Sun, and reviews available solar power generation technologies
and their suitability for South Africa.

20 September 2011 from 13:00 14:00 in the Council Chambers, Madibeng
Building, Auckland Park Kingsway Campus, University of Johannesburg.

Prof Hartmut Winkler is a member of the Department of Physics and
specializes in astrophysics, atmospheric physics and solar radiation. He has
published papers on active galactic nuclei, the structure of the universe, interstellar
dust, novae and stars with shells and aerosols and their impact on solar irradiation.
