    Stephane Peigne

    UCT Lecture

    Dear all,

Stephane Peigne, SUBATECH Nantes, France, will give his 3rd lecture on the energy loss of a parton (quark or gluon) crossing a nuclear medium.

Energy loss of colour charges in nuclear media
Lecture 3 -- parton radiative energy loss --
As an introduction, I will sketch how QCD factorization is used in the context of heavy-ion collisions to predict jet-quenching, and define the medium-induced energy loss. Then the talk will be divided in two main parts:
    - radiation in a single scattering: QED vs. QCD, coherence and formation time.
    - medium-induced radiation: Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect in QED and QCD.
If some time is left, the effect of the "dead cone" on the radiation spectrum of a heavy quark will also be discussed.

    when: Wed, 24 August 2011, 12:00 to 13:00
where: Duncan Elliott Seminar Room, RW James Building, UCT
